Sun, Sand ‘n Sea

“Those who live by the sea can hardly form a single thought of which the sea would not be part.”
― Hermann Broch

Having been brought up next to the sea, it is hardly surprising that my Favorite Place is usually somewhere right next to the water. For this challenge, I have some photos from some of the most beautiful beaches and coasts that I have had the pleasure of visiting over the past few years…

Trick Water Skiing

One of the best things about living in a different country is the chance that it offers to experience something new – local food, culture, and of course, the sports.

The Moomba festival, held last week in Melbourne, Australia was one such great opportunity to watch world class water skiers in action. The gravity defying flips, twists and turns in the trick water skiing section were absolutely brilliant !

Given a chance, I’d Rather Be… continuing to explore such novel experiences.

Thank you for stopping by 🙂

Soy Ice Cream and Bean Fish

Japan is a foodie’s paradise… Especially so for a sweet tooth like me. A couple of years ago, I had the chance to sample some unique sweets during a day trip to Kawagoe.

The soy flavoured ice cream had a very interesting flavour that slowly grows on you. Although I was apprehensive at first, the saltiness of the soya sauce perfectly balanced the sweetness of the ice cream !

The Taiyaki (baked fish shaped cake with the red bean paste filling), in comparison, is a very common sight throughout the country. These days it is not unusual to find taiyaki with more modern fillings like custard, sweet potato and chocolate.

Hope you have a Safe and
Sweet weekend !

Sweet Potato

A few weeks ago, we got a sweet potato to make some soup and then promptly forgot all about it. Not deterred by this, the noble spud proceeded to put down some roots (and lots of shoots) and decided to stay and become a part of the family.

Here are a few snapshots of the ‘tater before we plop it into a plant pot and see how far it grows !

Kachi-kachi yama

At a short drive from Tokyo, lies the picturesque Fujigoko (Fuji Five Lakes) region – offering breathtaking views of Mt.Fuji from lakeshores as well as the top of Mt. Tenjo (which can be accessed via a ropeway or a quick hike).

This is a great way to see Fuji-san up close – especially during the winter season when the hiking paths are closed down.
